This 17-stage relay race commences in Baddeck and travels through the Cape Breton Highlands to Margaree. On the 298 km (185 mi) course, teams of seventeen from around the region and beyond participate in two days of competitive and recreational road racing. A meet-and-greet event and an awards banquet are featured.

A community celebration held at the S & L Railway Station in Louisbourg featuring: opening ceremony, flag-raising ceremony, singing of "O Canada", outdoor concert, clown performance, cutting of cake, face painting, BBQ, and more. Admission is free.

Children under 12 free. Best costume contest, pig roast, bonfire, swordplay demos, archery, tarot card readings, vendors and more. Fun and frolics for the whole family on a 25 acre organic homestead on the Cabot Trail.

Each Tuesday evening some of Cape Breton's finest musicians gather at the Christmas Island Fire Hall to share the stage with emerging talent and local tradition bearers in bilingual Gaelic-English concerts. The Festival is exciting to both writers and readers, providing insight into the life of an author, and the growth of his work.
The 2011 lineup of authors includes 2010 Scotiabank Giller and Rogers Writers' Trust Fiction Prize nominee Alexander MacLeod, spoken-word artist and 2010 Poet Laureate of Halifax Shauntay Grant, and poet, novelist, and 2010 Giller Prize winner Johanna Skibsrud.
Friday opening reception: Shauntay Grant reads new poems commissioned by the Festival and inspired by the large iron sculpture of Gordon Kennedy. His dynamic works are on display during the readings.
Saturday: the featured authors conduct workshops and discussions for both readers and writers. Lunch included.
Saturday evening: readings from Alexander MacLeod and Johanna Skibsrud. Afterward, Alec Frith (of Gypsophilia) entertains. Cash bar. The very popular Readers' Market is open.
