    St. Peters Canal National Historic Site

    St. Peter's Canal links the Atlantic Ocean to the vast Bras d'Or lakes. The canal is an ideal spot from which to watch small craft pass through the lock system of this 140-year old canal. There are several outdoor exhibits and a museum, as well as picnic facilities.

    Canso Causeway

    This S-shaped structure connects Nova Scotia to Cape Breton Island by bridge the Strait of Canso. Before the Causeway was built, the only method of transport between the mainland and the Island was via ferry, and tumultous winds and waters made this difficult. The Causeway was built in 1955.
